Casio Unveils Limited Edition MRG-B2100HR-1A Watch with Kyoto Craftsmanship
Casio's new MRG-B2100HR-1A watch is a luxurious timepiece that combines traditional Japanese craftsmanship with modern engineering. The limited edition watch, priced at 1.1 million yen (approximately $7,350), is part of Casio's flagship MR-G line and celebrates three decades since its inception in 1996.
The watch features an intricate, three-dimensional lattice dial inspired by kigumi wood joinery design, a traditional Japanese technique that connects timber without nails or adhesives. Renowned metal leaf artist Hiroto Rakusho, born in Kyoto's Nishijin district, has hand-dusted platinum onto each 3-D dial using the sunago technique, resulting in a unique artistic fingerprint on every piece.
To mirror Rakusho's artwork on the exterior, Casio applied structural color technology via ultra-short pulse lasers across the bezel and watchstrap. The micron-level laser texturing mimics the natural iridescence seen on butterfly wings and mineral crystals, producing a colorful beauty that changes depending on the viewing angle.
The MRG-B2100HR-1A also features advanced metal construction, including an octagonal bezel crafted from 27 individually polished components and premium COBARION (a cobalt-chromium-molybdenum alloy about two times as hard as stainless steel) and DAT55G (a high-performance titanium alloy) alloys that provide structural resilience.
The watch is limited to only 800 pieces worldwide, making it a rare and exclusive timepiece for elite collectors and connoisseurs. By capturing the spirit of haruka, a Japanese concept conveying timeless strength and boundless duration, the MRG-B2100HR-1A unites Kyoto craftsmanship with modern engineering into an enduring piece of wearable art.
