Conservatives Tell Carney to Show Backbone in Trade Talks
Canada's Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre and his Canada-U.S. relations critic Shuvaloy Majumdar have written a letter to Bank of England Governor Mark Carney, urging him to take a tougher stance in trade negotiations with the United States.
The letter, sent on Sunday, accuses Prime Minister Justin Trudeau of caving too easily to U.S. President Donald Trump's demands over the past year.
According to Poilievre and Majumdar, Trudeau has scrapped the digital service tax, removed Canada's counter-tariffs, and cut a deal with the United States on net toll revenue from the Gordie Howe International Bridge.
The Conservatives argue that these concessions have led to job losses in manufacturing-heavy Canadian cities that rely on cross-border supply chains.
