Cost of Living Surges as Top Concern for Americans Amid Iran War

A new poll by Marquette University Law School has found that Americans' top concern is the rising cost of living and inflation, which affects nearly six in ten people. The issue has remained a top concern for months, with 35 percent of respondents citing it as their most important issue, followed closely by the economy at 15 percent.

The Iran war, which had been a significant concern earlier this year, has dropped to its lowest spot since being surveyed, with only 10 percent considering it the most important issue. The poll also found that 75 percent of Americans believe the war is not worth the cost, and an overwhelming 88 percent do not think the US has achieved its goal.

The poll's results come as the Federal Reserve left interest rates unchanged for the fifth straight meeting in July, despite some regional presidents calling for a rate hike to combat inflation. Annual inflation had dipped from 4.1 percent in May to 3.7 percent in June, but remains a concern for many Americans.

The economy is also on shaky ground, with only 28 percent describing it as being in an excellent or good state.
