Cuba's Informal Market Sees Dollar and Euro Surge Against Peso
The informal currency market in Cuba has seen significant fluctuations as of October 3, 2026. The U.S. dollar appreciated against the Cuban peso, reaching a high of 785 CUP, marking an increase of 5.5 pesos from the previous session's average of 780 CUP. This represents a 6.4% rise over the past week and a gain of 102.5 pesos from 683 CUP in the last month.
The euro also appreciated, closing at 885 CUP, up by 7 pesos from the previous day's 878 CUP. Over the same period, it has increased by 45.5 pesos from 840 CUP, a 5.4% hike. The euro surpassed the dollar in value by 100 pesos and has set its highest point over the past month.
The MLC's indicative rate dropped to 460 CUP, down 25.5 pesos from the previous day's 486 CUP. Its transaction volume is limited due to low activity, making its use confined primarily to state-run stores accepting it. The official exchange rate remains significantly lower at 695 CUP per dollar and 783 CUP per euro.
