DAX 40 Reclaims 25,000 as Weak US Jobs Report Eases Rate Hike Fears
Germany's DAX 40 index rebounded strongly on Friday, October 2, 2026, after falling below the 25,000 mark the previous day. The benchmark index closed at 25,231.20, up 291.85 points or 1.17% from Thursday's close of 24,939.35.
The US September jobs report was the main catalyst for the rally. Non-farm payrolls rose by just 29,000, compared with the 90,000 economists polled by Reuters had expected. This led to a decrease in the market-implied probability of a Federal Reserve rate hike in October from roughly 25% beforehand to about 15%. As a result, the German 10-year Bund yield fell more than six basis points to 3.454%, and the DAX extended its gains to more than 330 points by mid-afternoon.
The rebound followed a 1.03% fall on Thursday that took the DAX below 25,000. At 25,231.20 it remains roughly 5.2% below its 52-week high of 26,618.74. The index still needs lower bond yields and steadier energy prices to recover September's losses.
