Deutsche Bank Clears Yuan Transactions in Europe

China has taken another step towards internationalizing its currency by authorising Deutsche Bank AG to settle yuan transactions in Europe. This move will allow the German bank to handle yuan clearing from Frankfurt, where it is headquartered.

The People's Bank of China made this announcement, which underscores China's push to reduce its reliance on the US dollar. In Europe, the use of the yuan has been growing due to China's deep economic ties with the region. Record trade surpluses between China and the EU, as well as Germany, demonstrate this.

Leo Yin, president of Deutsche Bank China, stated that client inquiries and yuan-settlement volumes have increased in recent years. He also mentioned that global firms are increasingly invoicing directly in yuan to cut costs and improve pricing transparency with Chinese suppliers.
