Dollar Climbs While Euro Holds Steady in Cuba's Informal Market
The informal currency exchange market in Cuba closed on September 19, 2026, with the U.S. dollar experiencing an upward trend and the euro remaining stable.
According to data from the CiberCuba Exchange Rate index, which analyzes thousands of currency exchange posts on Telegram and Facebook groups, the U.S. dollar rose by 3.5 Cuban pesos (CUP) to reach 709 CUP at close, representing a gain of 2.4% over the past week.
The euro remained unchanged from the previous day's value at 805 CUP but has gained 17.5 pesos over the past seven days, an increase of 2.2%. The euro continues to be the costliest currency in Cuba's parallel market, surpassing the dollar by 96 pesos.
