Dollar Crashes Through 200K Tomans Barrier in Iran's Free Market
The US dollar has reached an all-time high in Iran's free market, trading at around 198,000 tomans on Sunday. This surge is attributed to strong demand for foreign currency and concerns over fresh US sanctions that have pushed the Iranian rial to a new low.
The dollar started the week at approximately 189,700 tomans but has risen by about 4.4% in less than seven days, surpassing its previous high of around 191,000 tomans set in July.
US President Donald Trump's announcement on Thursday to launch a new economic push against Iran is seen as contributing to the dollar's rise.
