Dollar Surges Past 740 Pesos in Cuba's Informal Market
The US dollar continues to rise in Cuba's informal market, reaching a new high of 745 Cuban pesos (CUP) this Monday. This marks an increase of five pesos from Sunday and is the highest level seen in the last 30 days.
In comparison to its value seven days ago, the dollar has gained 27 pesos, representing an approximate increase of 3.8%. When looking at the past month, the US dollar has risen from 675 CUP to 745 CUP, a difference of 70 pesos and an approximate increase of 10.4%.
The euro is also on the rise, closing at 850 CUP this Monday, three pesos above its value from Sunday. This represents the highest level seen for the European currency in the last 30 days, with an increase of 11.4% from 763 CUP to 850 CUP.
The MLC, or Freely Convertible Currency, recorded an indicative value of 488 CUP this Monday, a drop of 54 pesos compared to Sunday's value and nearly 10%. In contrast, the dollar and euro are reaching their highest levels in the last 30 days, with a substantial gap between the informal market and the official exchange rate set by the Central Bank of Cuba.
