Dutch PM Throws Support Behind Klaas Knot for ECB Leadership
The European Central Bank (ECB) succession drama has just gotten more complicated. The Dutch Prime Minister, Rob Jetten, has thrown his support behind Klaas Knot, a former governor of the central bank of the Netherlands, to lead the ECB after Christine Lagarde.
Jetten praised Knot's 'great success' during his 14-year tenure from 2011 to 2025 and called him 'very pragmatic.' He also highlighted Knot's ability to work with everyone and understand the balance between the north and south of the eurozone.
Knot, who currently heads his own advisory firm KK Economic Advisory, has a long history of involvement in European institutions. He was part of the Governing Council of the ECB during his time as governor and has also chaired the Financial Stability Board of the G20.
