ECB Advances Digital Euro Work Amid Market Framework Updates
The European Central Bank (ECB) has announced advancements in its digital euro work and updates to market framework rules across the euro area. The bank is expanding its efforts beyond interest rate decisions, focusing on digital currency development and governance.
Two calls for expressions of interest were launched by the ECB's Governing Council in September 2026 for digital euro e-commerce pilots and private innovation partnerships. Applications are due by October 27 and November 9, respectively.
New amendments to the Eurosystem monetary policy framework will take effect from November 30, 2026, aiming to improve valuation processes. The ECB also reported significant public interest in its survey on euro banknote design, with nearly 10 million respondents representing 2.6% of the euro area population.
