ECB Economist Sees Italian Wage Recovery by 2027-28
The European Central Bank's Chief Economist, Philip Lane, has expressed optimism about the Italian economy's ability to recover from current inflationary pressures. In an interview with ANSA, Lane highlighted the resilience of the Italian economy, suggesting that wages should rebound by 2027-28.
Lane attributed this positive outlook to the ECB's recent rate hikes, which he believes have mitigated greater financial harm to Italian households. Despite soaring inflation currently diminishing purchasing power, the central bank's interventions are expected to lay the groundwork for economic stability and wage recovery in the near future.
The ECB's actions are seen as crucial in stabilizing the economy, providing a buffer against inflation's erosive effects. Lane's remarks come at a time when many households are struggling with reduced disposable income due to rising prices.
