ECB Executive Board Member Isabel Schnabel Resigns to Join IMF
Isabel Schnabel, an Executive Board member and Governing Council member of the European Central Bank (ECB), has announced her resignation to take a senior role at the International Monetary Fund (IMF).
Schnabel will step down from her position on January 3, 2027, and transition into the role of IMF Financial Counsellor and Director of the Monetary and Capital Markets Department on January 4, 2027.
The Governing Council has decided that no cooling-off period is required, allowing Schnabel to remain involved in her current responsibilities until her departure. A successor will be appointed by the European Council according to the Treaty on the Functioning of the European Union.
President Christine Lagarde thanked Schnabel for her contributions over the past seven years, praising her role in stabilizing inflation and modernizing ECB operations.
