ECB Launches Pontes, Invests €23 Billion in Tokenized Securities
The European Central Bank (ECB) has launched Pontes, a new platform designed to facilitate settlements of tokenized assets using central bank money for wholesale transactions. This infrastructure development introduces a direct central bank mechanism for tokenized wholesale transactions, potentially increasing the euro's utility in digital markets and supporting institutional settlement activity.
The ECB intends to invest part of its €23 billion reserves in euro-denominated tokenized securities, accelerating adoption of digital financial instruments in the euro area. This move is seen as a significant step towards digitizing financial instruments within the euro area, although price action has remained under broader selling pressure for EUR/EGP.
The technical analysis indicates that EUR/EGP faces sustained downside momentum, trading below key averages with a short-term expected range of EGP58.4248 to EGP59.012. The Ichimoku Kijun on the daily chart stands at EGP59.2471, serving as immediate resistance.
