ECB Pontes Launch Validates Blockchain, Remittix Simplifies Crypto Finance
The European Central Bank (ECB) has launched Pontes, a blockchain settlement system that connects distributed-ledger platforms with central-bank-money settlement through Eurosystem infrastructure. This marks a significant step towards mainstream adoption of blockchain technology.
Remittix, a cryptocurrency platform, has also upgraded its dashboard to make it easier for users to manage their assets, send and receive payments, trade, and earn interest on their holdings. The platform aims to simplify crypto finance by combining multiple services in one application.
Pontes provides an interim bridge between DLT platforms and the Eurosystem's TARGET services while a longer-term solution is developed. This initiative demonstrates that blockchain technology is becoming increasingly accepted as a viable solution for financial institutions.
The ECB has stated that Pontes is not endorsing speculative tokens, but rather recognizing the potential of programmable ledgers to improve financial plumbing. Institutional validation can encourage consumer platforms to develop applications that make digital value move as easily as conventional bank money.
