The European Central Bank (ECB) staff committee has written to the ECB's executive board, urging them to clarify whether President Christine Lagarde will leave her post before the end of her term in October 2027. The staff representatives warn that prolonged uncertainty could damage trust in the institution and create concern among staff and stakeholders.

The letter also asks the leadership to confirm whether Executive Board Member Isabel Schnabel can leave before her term ends in December 2027, as she is reportedly a candidate for a position at the International Monetary Fund (IMF).

Lagarde has been facing questions about a potential early exit since May last year, when reports emerged of discussions with World Economic Forum Chairman Klaus Schwab about her moving to the WEF. Lagarde has stated that she will complete her full term, but repeatedly avoided giving a clear commitment.
