ECB Weighs AI-Powered Digital Euro Payments
The European Central Bank is exploring the use of artificial intelligence agents and machine-to-machine payment technology for digital euro payments.
The ECB plans to test various uses, including AI agent payments and micropayments, through its digital euro innovation platform from January to June next year.
The pilot program will involve fintech and payments companies, including Revolut, Stripe, and Deutsche Bank, which have been selected for a separate 12-month pilot program starting in the second half of next year.
Any actual issuance of a digital euro would require EU legislation to pass and a final ECB decision.
