EUR/USD Crumbles Under Fed's Hawkish Warning: US Treasury Yields Soar
The EUR/USD exchange rate has come under pressure after hawkish comments from New York Federal Reserve Bank member John Williams. The pair retreated to near 1.1380 against the US Dollar, as the Greenback rose in response to Williams' remarks.
Williams emphasized the resilience of the US economy and the risks of inflation, signaling that another interest rate hike by year-end is 'reasonable'. This stance has boosted US Treasury Yields, which have posted a fresh 19-year high near 5.14%.
The German IFO data for September showed stronger-than-projected numbers, with the Business Climate Index improving to 89.9. However, this positive economic news was overshadowed by Williams' comments and the subsequent rise in US Dollar strength.
