Euro Area Annual Inflation Rate Hits 3.2%
The euro area annual inflation rate rose to 3.2% in August 2026, up from 2.9% in July and a year earlier of 2.0%, according to Eurostat.
This marks the highest annual rate since 2008, with many European Union member states experiencing higher rates than the euro area average.
The highest annual inflation rates were recorded in Romania (6.3%), Lithuania (5.6%), and Cyprus (5.2%).
Services (+1.43 percentage points), energy (+1.29 percentage points), non-energy industrial goods (+0.30 percentage points), and food, alcohol & tobacco (+0.22 percentage points) contributed positively to the euro area's inflation rate.
