Euro Hits Record Low Against Albanian Lek Amid Summer Season Influx
The Euro has hit a new record low against the Albanian Lek, with an exchange rate of 91.4 lekë per euro. This marks the lowest level ever recorded for the currency pair.
The decline in the Euro's value is attributed to several factors, including weak demand and large foreign exchange inflows due to the summer season. As a result, agents believe that the exchange rate will continue to fall.
The long-term improvement in Albania's external economic position has been driven by increases in tourism revenues, services exports, and foreign direct investment, particularly in real estate. The Bank of Albania reported a significant reduction in the current account deficit for the first half of 2026, with a total value of 361 million euros.
The growth in services exports and remittances has been substantial, with a positive balance in trade at approximately 1.79 billion euros. Tourism has also contributed significantly to the economy, bringing in net income worth 957 million euros, up 20% compared to the same period last year.
