Euro Strengthens as Rate Hike Bets Diminish and Dollar Yields Decline

The euro has gained strength against the US dollar as investors reassess expectations for Federal Reserve interest rate hikes. Recent economic data, including softer inflation readings and mixed employment figures, has fueled speculation that the Fed may be nearing the end of its tightening cycle.

A shift in market sentiment has reduced bets on further rate increases, diminishing the dollar's yield advantage and making the euro relatively more attractive to investors. According to CME Group's FedWatch tool, futures markets imply a roughly 70% probability that the Fed will hold rates steady at its next meeting, down from higher expectations earlier in the month.

The euro has also drawn support from the European Central Bank's hawkish posture. ECB officials have signaled that inflation in the euro area remains too high, leaving the door open for additional rate increases if necessary. In contrast, Fed Chair Jerome Powell has emphasized a data-dependent approach.
