Euro Surges Against Pound as Rate Expectations Shift

The Euro has been on a winning streak against the Pound Sterling for eight out of nine sessions. The usual reasons that explain such a run are absent, as there hasn't been any significant change in the interest rate differential between the two currencies.

Bank Rate is still 150 basis points above the European Central Bank's deposit rate, which has remained steady since mid-June. However, it's not just about the current rates; the forward curve expects the gap to narrow further, and most of that narrowing has come from the British side.

The market initially expected the Bank of England to stay restrictive for longer than the European Central Bank, but that view has been taken apart since mid-July. British data and a more dovish European Central Bank have contributed to this shift in expectations.

On Thursday, the Bank of England will announce its decision on interest rates, which is expected to be unchanged at 3.75%. However, the vote split could still surprise markets, with some analysts predicting a third hawkish dissent or an 8-1 split in favor of keeping rates steady.
