Euro's Upside Capped Against US Dollar, Scotiabank Warns
Scotiabank analysts have released a note stating that the euro's upside potential against the US dollar is limited. The EUR/USD pair has been trading near its fair value, suggesting that further gains may be constrained. This assessment takes into account current market conditions, including interest rate differentials, economic growth prospects, and geopolitical factors.
The bank notes that the euro's recent strength has been partly supported by expectations of ECB rate hikes, but these are already largely priced in by the market. Meanwhile, the US economy continues to show resilience, which supports the dollar. The technical analysis from Scotiabank indicates that the euro faces resistance around recent highs, with support levels also well-defined.
Scotiabank's strategists point out that a break above these levels would require a significant shift in the fundamental outlook, such as a more hawkish ECB or a weakening US economy. Conversely, a move below support could open the door to further dollar strength. Traders are advised to monitor upcoming economic data releases and central bank communications for clues on the pair's direction.
