Fed Expected to Hike Rates Amid Elevated Inflation and Energy Prices

The Federal Reserve is set to announce its latest interest-rate decision on Wednesday afternoon. According to Kalshi traders, there's an 88% chance that the central bank will raise rates for the first time since 2023.

A rate increase of 25 basis points is predicted by 88% of traders, while only 13% expect no change and a mere 1% predict a hike of more than 25 basis points.

The expectation for a rate rise stems from persistently high inflation and elevated energy prices. The Consumer Price Index has been rising at an annual pace of 3.4% in August, exceeding the Fed's 2% target.

Some economists believe that additional rate increases may be necessary if inflation and energy prices remain elevated.
