Fed Holds Interest Rates Steady Amid High Inflation
The Federal Reserve held interest rates steady at its latest meeting, despite high inflation and dissenting voices from three regional bank presidents.
The central bank's rate-setting committee voted 9 to 3 to keep short-term borrowing rates between 3.5% and 3.75%, a decision that affects the cost of credit throughout the economy.
Kevin Warsh, the new Fed chair, emphasized the need to curb stubborn inflation, which remains elevated at 4.2% after spiking in May due to gasoline price increases.
Warsh said his committee has 'no tolerance' for persistently high inflation and is determined to restore price stability.
