Fed Slaps Higher Interest Rates on Inflation Concerns
The Federal Reserve has taken steps to combat inflation by raising interest rates for the first time since July 2023. The move aims to contain rising prices, which have been above 3% in many categories of goods and services on a 6- and 12-month basis.
Fed Chairman Kevin Warsh emphasized his concerns about inflation during remarks after the meeting. He noted that annualized price gains above 3% are being seen in multiple areas.
The rate hike is part of a larger effort to control inflation, which has been a concern for policymakers and economists alike. The Fed's decision also includes penciling in an additional interest rate increase before the end of the year.
