Federated Farmers Cheers New Planning Legislation
Federated Farmers has welcomed new planning legislation in New Zealand, which they say will cut red tape and unlock investment to grow the country's export-led economy.
The Planning Bill and Natural Environment Bills passed their third reading in Parliament yesterday. Mark Hooper, RMA reform spokesperson for Federated Farmers, said the new legislation marks a huge milestone for farmers and the nation.
'We've been pushing hard for RMA reform because the status quo has simply not been good enough,' Mr Hooper said.
The RMA has been around for over 30 years, making it harder and more expensive for Kiwis to get on with everyday activities like building a new shed or water storage. Farmers have spent too much time and money navigating a complex system that's been unnecessarily bureaucratic and uncertain.
