Floyd Gramlich: A Life of Banking and Adventure
Floyd John Gramlich passed away on September 15, 2026, at the age of 80 in Red Deer, Alberta. He had written his own obituary to share his life story with loved ones. Born on February 7, 1946, in Kerrobert, Saskatchewan, Floyd grew up on a small farm near Major, Saskatchewan.
He started school in Compeer, Alberta, after his family moved west due to his father's job transfer with the Canadian Pacific Railway. After completing high school, Floyd began working at Royal Bank of Canada in Consort, Alberta, and spent over three decades transferring throughout Alberta, British Columbia, and Saskatchewan.
Floyd's career in banking was followed by a period of seismic mapping for oil companies across western Manitoba, southern Saskatchewan, and Alberta. However, his life took a challenging turn when he developed multiple sclerosis (MS) in 2001.
The progression of MS led to various health issues, including heart problems in 2021 and bronchial and lung issues after battling COVID-19 in 2022. Despite these challenges, Floyd continued to enjoy leisurely travels along Alberta's waterways at the time of his passing.
