FTSE 100 Edges Higher on Cooler U.S. Inflation Data
British stocks rose on Wednesday after U.S. inflation data showed cooler-than-expected growth, easing concerns about rising oil prices and financial-system risks.
The FTSE 100 was up 0.13% as of 08:41 ET (12:41 GMT), while Germany's DAX fell 0.05% and France's CAC dropped 0.40%, reversing earlier gains.
U.S. data released on Wednesday showed the core personal consumption expenditures price index, which strips out food and fuel, rose 0.2% month on month in August, compared with 0.1% in July and expectations for 0.3%. In the twelve months to August, core PCE stood at 3.0%, matching July's rate but below the 3.3% forecast.
However, the Bank of England's Financial Policy Committee warned that risks from interconnected vulnerabilities had increased, citing renewed Middle East conflict, higher energy prices, rising bond yields and AI exposure.
