Fuhr: BC Economy Must Adapt to Changing Global Landscape
Kelowna MP Stephen Fuhr emphasized the importance of building a stronger economy in British Columbia, particularly in the face of evolving economic relationships with Canada's largest trading partner, the United States. The uncertainty surrounding U.S. tariffs has reinforced the need for a resilient economy at home.
The Canada-BC Cooperative Prosperity Agreement is one step towards achieving this goal, signed this summer to accelerate major projects and strengthen energy and trade infrastructure. The federal government has committed up to $3 billion toward replacing the George Massey Tunnel and $3.9 billion toward the first two phases of the North Coast Transmission Line.
Fuhr also highlighted other investments in ports and trade corridors, critical minerals, LNG, clean electricity, and major projects, which will create significant opportunities for skilled workers. The government has announced Team Canada Strong, a national commitment to recruit, train, and hire up to 100,000 new Red Seal trades workers over the next five years.
