Furman Says Some Trump Policies Have Had Positive Economic Impact
Jason Furman, former top adviser to Barack Obama, believes that some of Trump's economic policies have had a positive impact on the economy. In an interview on Catherine Rampell's new podcast Receipts, Furman discussed why he thinks liberals may be 'blinkered' to these benefits. He pointed out that the stock market has been resilient despite the administration's policies.
Furman also expressed confidence in Fed independence after last week's interest rate hike. However, he noted that if it turns out that Fed Chair Kevin Warsh threw his colleagues under the bus by allowing Trump to believe they were the main obstacle to rate cuts, that wouldn't be a bad thing.
The economist warned about Bidenflation early on and has been critical of some Democratic administration policies. He shared advice for Trump's economic surrogates, including Kevin Hassett, who appears to struggle with even softball interviews on Fox News.
