GBP/USD Slides as Fed Turns Hawkish Amid BoE Caution
The GBP/USD currency pair has been declining over the past four days, resulting in a depreciation of approximately 1.25%. This downward trend is attributed to the divergence between Federal Reserve and Bank of England policy stances.
The Federal Reserve raised its benchmark interest rate to 4.0%, adopting a firmly restrictive tone. In contrast, the Bank of England decided to maintain its benchmark interest rate at 3.75%, aligning with market expectations. However, the BoE warned that further rate hikes could be required if inflationary pressures intensify due to a prolonged conflict in the Middle East.
The BoE's decision marked a shift in monetary policy stance, leaving the door open to future interest rate increases if price pressures persist. Analysts expect the Bank of Japan to adopt a more restrictive monetary policy decision at its upcoming meeting.
