Global Economists Hail India's Growth Trajectory and Reforms
New Delhi has caught the attention of global economists who are impressed by India's economic trajectory and reforms. According to Daniel Waldenström, a Swedish economist, India has made significant progress through growth-oriented policies and is well-positioned to translate economic expansion into broader social gains.
Waldenström emphasized that policymakers should focus more on income inequality than wealth inequality, as income levels provide a clearer picture of poverty and economic opportunities. He also suggested taxing capital income, including corporate profits, dividends, and interest earnings, instead of relying on wealth or inheritance taxes.
Former European Central Bank President Jean-Claude Trichet praised India's transformation, saying it is 'very impressive' and in the right direction. French economist Jean-Pierre Landau commended the growing India-France partnership and described India as a key actor in addressing global challenges. Zhang Liqing, Professor of Economics from China, also hailed India's economy as 'quite dynamic and quite strong', expecting its contribution to the world economy.
