Chicago Fed President Austan Goolsbee expressed optimism about recent inflation trends. He noted that consumer price index data has shown improvement over the past three months, indicating that shocks from tariffs and higher oil prices may be subsiding.

Goolsbee emphasized that while this development is encouraging, it's crucial to see sustained improvements over the coming months to confirm a return to the Federal Reserve's 2% inflation target. He pointed out that inflation had previously been on an unfavorable trajectory for five or six straight months and remains too high overall.

Goolsbee supports the Fed's decision to hold interest rates steady at its July meeting, citing ongoing concerns about inflation as his primary concern. By contrast, he believes U.S. economic growth and employment are 'basically stable.'
