Greek Inflation Hits 5.1% as Energy Prices Soar
Greek inflation surged to 5.1% in September, its highest level since March 2023, driven by skyrocketing energy prices.
The rapid increase in oil prices has led to a 25.4% rise in energy costs over the past year and a 5% jump in just one month, despite discounts from refineries and the government's state subsidy for liquid fuels.
The phenomenon of significant divergence in inflation between Greece and the eurozone is also apparent, with Greece recording an annual harmonized consumer price index of 5.1%, while the eurozone saw a 3.8% increase in September.
