Greek Inflation Surges to 5.1%, Led by Energy Price Increases
The inflation rate in Greece has surged to 5.1% in September, according to a recent flash estimate from Eurostat. This marks one of the biggest monthly increases among member states in the euro area.
On an annual basis, inflation accelerated from 3.7% in August. Energy costs were by far the largest source of price pressure, with energy prices rising 18.8% from a year earlier.
The increase was part of a wider resurgence in inflation across the euro area, where prices rose 3.8% from a year earlier in September. Several large economies also saw their inflation rates accelerate, including Germany, France, Italy, and Spain.
