Hana Bank Issues $100M Digital Bond with Blockchain T+0 Settlement
Hana Bank has issued a $100 million five-year foreign-currency digital bond via Euroclear's D-FMI blockchain platform, achieving South Korea's first same-day settlement (T+0) for a foreign-currency bond issuance.
The bank processed the bond on September 18 through D-FMI, a Distributed Ledger Technology (DLT)-based platform operated by Euroclear. The deal completed issuance, registration, and settlement on the distributed ledger network in just one day.
Standard Chartered served as sole lead manager, overseeing the process from bond structuring to issuance and distribution. Hana Bank described the initiative as integrating blockchain technology into capital markets.
The bank linked the digital bond to Euroclear's existing global settlement network, allowing institutional investors to trade the bond through their existing Euroclear accounts and trading systems without building separate infrastructure.
