Japan Stock Market Closure: Tokyo Exchanges Shut for Three Days
The Tokyo Stock Exchange and Osaka Exchange in Japan will be closed for three days starting from September 21. The closure is due to three national holidays: Respect for the Aged Day, Citizens' Holiday, and Autumnal Equinox Day.
During this time, normal trading will resume on Thursday, September 24. However, Nikkei futures continue to trade, USD/JPY remains active, and overseas markets continue to react to incoming developments.
The Bank of Japan raised its policy rate by 25 basis points to 1.25% from 1%, which was a decision passed by a 7-2 vote. This decision had been broadly anticipated by markets, but the presence of two dissenting members and Governor Kazuo Ueda's lack of a firm commitment to further rate hikes led investors to view it as less hawkish than expected.
