The Illinois Department of Employment Security (IDES) reported that the state's unemployment rate fell to 4.7% in August, down from 4.9% in July.

Total nonfarm payrolls decreased by 4,400 jobs over-the-month in August, but were up 15,000 jobs compared to the same month last year.

The industry sectors with the largest monthly payroll jobs increases included Leisure and Hospitality (+1,800), Construction (+1,500), and Professional and Business Services (+1,000).

IDEC Director Kristin Richards noted that while Illinois continues to add jobs over the year, August's report reflects the uncertainty caused by federal government policies.
