India Speeds Up Trade Talks with Canada and Mexico Amid US Tariff Disruption
India is accelerating trade talks with Canada and Mexico in response to the disruption caused by US President Donald Trump's tariff policies. Negotiators from India and Canada plan to hold a fifth round of talks starting October 5, building on discussions that concluded last week.
A deal between India and Canada is likely to be inked in December when Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi visits Canada for the G20 meeting in Miami. New Delhi has been finalizing a framework with Mexico to begin formal trade negotiations.
The three economies, with combined economic output of more than $8 trillion, are seeking new markets and partners. India's Ministry of Commerce and Industry didn't respond to a request for comment, while Mexico's Economy Ministry said there's ongoing analysis for a potential deal but no concrete or final proposal yet.
