Inflation Reports Set to Spark Fed Rate Decision

Upcoming inflation data is set to provide critical insight into the direction of inflation, which remains above 3% and is affecting households and businesses. The release of two key reports this week will give Wall Street and the Federal Reserve a clearer picture of inflation's trajectory.

The first report, scheduled for Thursday, is the Producer Price Index (PPI), which measures prices at the wholesale level before they are passed on to consumers. On Friday, the Consumer Price Index (CPI) report will provide details on price changes for specific goods and services, including groceries, furniture, clothing, and car maintenance.

The data comes as energy prices continue to rise due to the US-Iran conflict, which has led to higher gasoline prices and shipping costs. Tariff conflicts between the US and most of the world also pose a threat to sending prices even higher.

As a result, Wall Street expects the Federal Reserve to raise its benchmark interest rate at least once this year to combat inflation, with the goal of cooling it down to 2%.
