Inflation Rises Amid Energy Price Surge, Rate Hike Uncertainty Remains
UK inflation rose from 2.6% to 2.9% year-on-year in August, as energy prices continued to drive up headline numbers.
The Bank of England is expected to keep interest rates unchanged tomorrow, despite the increase in inflation, which was largely due to rising global oil prices.
The latter pushed crude oil towards $110 per barrel, increasing the risk that UK inflation will remain above target for longer.
