Japan's Needy Households Struggle with Food Prices Amid Inflation

Needy households in Japan are struggling to make ends meet as food prices continue to rise. According to a survey by Save the Children Japan, the average daily food expenditure per person is below 500 yen among needy families.

The survey, conducted in June, covered 8,736 parents nationwide who applied for food assistance from the organization. The results showed that over 60% of respondents were in debt, with 26.2% living with debt and 36.9% relying on their savings to get by.

Among two-person households, the average daily food spending per person fell to 490 yen from 533 yen last year. For six-member households, the figure dropped to 361 yen, a significant decrease in just one year.
