According to recent reports, Christine Lagarde personally intervened in Binance's bid for an EU MiCA license in Greece.

The European Central Bank (ECB) President is said to have urged Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis not to approve the application, despite it being reviewed by national competent authorities like the Hellenic Capital Market Commission (HCMC).

Binance had applied for a MiCA license in Greece as early as January and reportedly withdrew its application on June 24, just ahead of the July 1 deadline.

The MiCA transition period ended on July 1, and without a license, Binance's French entity suspended spot, margin, and futures trading, affecting around 2 million French users who were left with no option but to withdraw their assets.
