Lagarde Denies Early Departure Rumors at ECB

The European Central Bank (ECB) is abuzz with speculation about Christine Lagarde's future, as rumors swirl that she might leave her post before her term ends in October 2027.

Lagarde, the current president of the ECB, dismissed these claims when asked by a Bloomberg journalist if she would depart to attend the World Economic Forum. She quipped, 'If I had anything to announce, you would be the first to know after my grandchildren.'

The Financial Times reported in February that Lagarde was considering stepping down early to allow Emmanuel Macron and Friedrich Merz to influence the choice of her successor.
