Lagarde Warns of Vulnerability in Europe's AI Dependence
European Central Bank President Christine Lagarde emphasized the importance of developing in-house artificial intelligence capabilities for Europe. Speaking in Frankfurt on Thursday, she warned that relying solely on AI models from other regions could leave the continent vulnerable.
Lagarde stressed that Europe needs to become a key player in the global AI supply chain, rather than simply being dependent on external sources. She cited financial resilience as a primary concern, suggesting that access to vital tools should not be controlled by third parties.
The ECB President's comments come amid growing concerns about the potential risks of relying too heavily on foreign-developed AI. Lagarde did not elaborate on specific steps Europe could take to enhance its AI capabilities.
