Morrison Slams Labor Economy Amid RBA Rate Hike
Former Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison has criticized the current Labor government's economic management in a six-word social media post. The post, which references the proverb 'one swallow does not make a summer', implies that the 16th rate rise under the Albanese government points to a deeper trend.
The Reserve Bank of Australia (RBA) raised the cash rate to a 15-year high of 4.6% on Tuesday. RBA Governor Michele Bullock attributed the increase to 'domestic spending and investment' being 'stronger than expected', while productivity remained 'weak'. She also mentioned that the conflict in the Middle East was exacerbating oil prices.
Shadow Treasurer Tim Wilson, a member of the opposition party, echoed Bullock's sentiments, stating that the primary problem with the economy was the government's 'spending addiction'.
