Nagel Warns of Potential Restrictive Policies Amid Rising Energy Prices
European Central Bank (ECB) member Joachim Nagel acknowledged that high energy prices have driven inflation away from its target of 2026, but he expressed confidence in the labor market.
Nagel, who is also the Bundesbank President, stated that ECB rates are still in neutral territory and cannot rule out the possibility of mildly restrictive policies in the future.
The ECB's monetary policy decisions aim to maintain price stability, and Nagel emphasized that he does not see too much uncertainty in markets about what drives their decision-making.
