National Party Unveils Plan to Strengthen Small Businesses in New Zealand
The National Party has outlined a comprehensive plan to support small businesses in New Zealand, emphasizing economic growth, sensible spending, and debt reduction without new taxes. The party recognizes small businesses as the backbone of the economy, contributing to job creation, local economies, and global trade.
National's existing policies, such as the Investment Boost, allow businesses to immediately deduct 20% of the cost of new productive assets, encouraging investment in equipment, technology, and premises. Additional measures include restoring 90-day trials for employers, simplifying employment leave processes, and expanding eInvoicing. The party has also reformed building rules and made it easier to use overseas products.
Looking ahead, National aims to further reduce bureaucratic hurdles for small businesses. A First Employee Support Package will assist owners with payroll, employment agreements, tax, ACC, and leave requirements, reducing paperwork for apprentices and seasonal workers. The party also plans to streamline minor employment disputes and provide intensive support for high-potential exporters.
Other initiatives include simplifying seasonal worker agreements, maintaining the 20% investment deduction, and ensuring easier access to overseas opportunities. These measures are designed to help small businesses grow, hire, and compete on a global scale.
