NBC News Admits Tariff Scare Mongering Was 'Crapola'
NBC News recently published an article highlighting the state of the US economy before and after the Iran war. However, in doing so, they inadvertently undercut a year's worth of previous reporting on the negative impact of President Trump's tariffs.
The article stated that on February 27th, the day before the US and Israel attacked Iran, the American economy was on a steady course to lower inflation and greater buying power. Gas prices were cheap, and interest rates were coming down.
This is in stark contrast to previous NBC reporting on Trump's tariffs, which claimed that businesses had begun to raise their prices due to the president's policies. However, according to data from the Dow Jones market, gas prices under Trump were significantly lower than during his predecessors' administrations.
In fact, Fox News recently ran an analysis of market data showing that oil prices never went over $100 a barrel for 24 days throughout President Trump's first term in office. In comparison, President Obama's administration saw oil prices exceed $100 for 308 days, while President Biden's administration saw it happen for 84 days.
Additionally, NBC News attempted to highlight inflation as an issue under Trump, but their own reporting undercut this claim. According to a recent study by MRC Business and CNSNews using BLS data, the five-month average annual consumer price inflation rate spanning the Iran War (March-July 2026) averaged 3.6 percent. This is significantly lower than the same period in 2022 under President Biden, which saw an inflation rate of 8.6 percent.
